Florence County

Florence County Comprehensive Planning

Florence County and its municipalities are developing comprehensive plans for the purpose of guiding and coordinating future development. These plans are a long-range (10-20 years), broad view of the past, present, and future. The plans will address a variety of issues such as:  community change, growth, and preservation; identification of values and issues; analysis of trends and inventory of resources. The comprehensive plans also aid the county and its municipalities to comply with the consistency requirements of s 66.1001- the state comprehensive planning law.

The Florence County multi-jurisdictional planning process, which began in November 2008, is a bottom-up approach with each of the participating communities developing their own detailed  plans for adoption.  These adopted local plans will then be incorporated into the county framework plan. As a result, the county will leave most land use decisions to local communities.  The multi-jurisdictional planning process will be completed in April of 2010 with the adoption of the Florence County comprehensive plan.

Recognizing that the comprehensive plans must reflect the people they serve, Florence County and its communities encourage citizen input at all stages of the planning process.  Residents and property owners are highly encouraged to be active by attending planning meetings as your views have an impact on how your community and Florence County will look in the future. Please click on the Meetings link to become informed of upcoming meetings at the local and county levels.
